Street and Davis Performance Hall, Anne and Ellen Fife Theatre

Free; registration required.

An informal presentation on the art and science of classical dancing, this lecture/performance from Dance Theatre of Harlem is a fun and accessible introduction to ballet for students in 7th-12th grades in public, private, and homeschools.

Exercises to develop skills in jumping, turning, partnering, lifting, and dancing on pointe will be demonstrated and explained. Members of the audience will be invited to the stage to try some of the movements or test the similarities between social dance and ballet. Excerpts from Dance Theatre of Harlem’s eclectic repertoire will demonstrate how these elements come together to create the magic of dance.
