Blacksburg musicians take over the Cube in our first Moss Pit event, celebrating the local sounds and unique perspectives of singer and songwriter Johanna Vaughan and six-piece band Lo Key.

Johanna Vaughan
Johanna Vaughan is a local musician and songwriter who blends acoustic ambiance and vocal presence to create a sound that is light and relaxing. Every performance is unique, creating an intimate space for the audience and artist to share. Vaughan incorporates her acoustic guitar with layered vocal harmonies and simple instrumentals to produce an airy sound laden with emotion. Originally from Toronto, she has been producing and performing for over a decade, creating soundscapes textured like water and wind.

Lo Key
Formed as the jam-filled summer of 2018 came to an end, Lo Key is Blacksburg's newest positive vibrations sensation. The steady-rockin' fusion sextet combines elements of funk, rock, reggae, latin, Afro-beat, jam, jazz, and hip-hop to craft their soulful songs. The band was conceptualized when Michelle "Mich" Berry (the manager and booking agent for a local venue) introduced Ryan O'Reily (guitar) to drummer Seth "Gold Medal." Shortly after, local “doomy” blues heroes Trebuchet suggested the addition of Russell Detko, former guitar player for renowned reggae band Foundation Stone. With raw talent on the axes, beautifully crafted songs, a rhythm section that's been playing together for six years, and all six members singing, Lo Key is sure to make you feel good and keep the jive alive.

Lo Key's first supporting gig was with Boulder, Colorado's up and coming jam band, Amoramora, who has opened for Spafford, Papadosio, and many more. Lo Key kicks off the 2019 festival season with Dog Daze and the Wanderlust Festival. Lo Key consists of Russell Detko, guitar and vocals; Ryan O'Reilly, guitar and vocals; Hector Padilla, bass and vocals; Ian Harris, keyboards and vocals; Ndiame Gueye, drums and vocals; and Seth Wright, drums and vocals.
