Diversity and Inclusion

Visiting artists Saba Taj, Omar Offendum, and Karim Nagi hold hands to take a bow during the culminating performance of Salaam: Exploring Muslim Cultures at the Moss Arts Center

The Moss Arts Center commits to supporting policies and practices of equity that empower a diverse, just, and inclusive community. We embrace Virginia Tech’s Principles of Community, and contribute to the ongoing work of breaking down barriers and supporting engagement, learning, and growth for all.

Cultural equity embodies the values, policies, and practices that ensure all people—including, but not limited to, those who have been historically underrepresented based on race/ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, socioeconomic status, geography, citizenship status, or religion—are represented and can contribute to society, including the arts and creative endeavors.

The arts provide a platform for illumination, inspiration, and change. It is imperative that we continue to seek out and support artists representing diverse perspectives, and bring their experiences into the spotlight.

We will support positive change. This means reaffirming our commitment to serving the entire community, presenting historically underrepresented voices and perspectives, and promoting meaningful dialogue. We will continue to build cultural consciousness within our organization, identify areas where we can reflect and grow, and find new ways to listen to and engage with those who share our commitment to justice.

Everyone deserves equal access to a full, vibrant creative life, and our doors are always open for every member of our community.
