THIS EXHIBITION HAS ALEADY OCCURRED

Based in Atlanta, Sheila Pree Bright is an acclaimed fine arts photographer whose work conveys in stark, honest, and moving terms the gatherings of recent years in protest of police violence and sociopolitical inequities.

Presented in this exhibition are large scale photographs that poignantly portray the Black Lives Matter movement and responses to police shootings in Atlanta; Ferguson; Baltimore; Washington, D.C.; and Baton Rouge. Interspersed throughout the exhibition as a counterpoint to preconceived stereotypes are images of middle class African American suburban communities. Also featured is a new work commissioned by the Moss Arts Center specifically for this exhibition.

Bright’s work has been exhibited widely in group exhibitions and is in the collection of the High Museum of Art and the Smithsonian National Museum of African History and Culture.

"I feel art can be a form of activism to create awareness and bring shared communities together to critically look at ongoing social and political struggles across the nation.”

Sheila Pree Bright
