Visual Arts Activities
Close to 700 PK-12 students toured the Center for the Arts' galleries in 2024-2025.
Community Art Project
Mapping My Story was a collaborative art project and innovative engagement opportunity for PK-5 students from various schools and districts. Students created art that reflects a place they feel strongly about. Their work was displayed in the Grand Lobby in spring 2025.
"Thank you so much for offering this meaningful workshop geared to PK-5th grade! ... Learning about the pieces [in the center's gallery] and the accessible way you invited the kids to approach and consider the art was more impactful than you realize!"

Young Artists: Layers of Me
A special exhibition in the Ruth C. Horton Gallery featured work from Shawsville Middle School student artists exploring identity and self-expression. The exhibition was coordinated by Bethany Costello, Center for the Arts engagement manager, and Alysha Bates, Shawsville Middle School art teacher.
"Shawsville Middle School seventh and eighth grade art students found inspiration seeing their art hung in the center. They were able to continue the year with new pride, motivation to take risks, and a confidence in themselves that they hadn't had before. It was an uplifting experience for them that grew them as artists."
